Soundwave In Artwork by Raksha

Rated: G • starstarstarhalf-star
Summary: How should the real Soundwave look when there are so many possibilities?
Reviewer: PrincessArtemis Signed starstarstar
Date: 24/11/03 Title: Chapter 1: Soundwave In Artwork

I can't say that I know you particularly well, certainly not enough to know if you are an artist. I'll let you know, in case you aren't an artist (and you can ignore me if you are), that because of the lack of detail in his face, it is very difficult to capture a proper expression for Soundwave. His face mask and optic band, being the only prominent features there, present a more difficult problem than drawing expression on a reptile. Yet reptiles are expressive, at least those that I've seen are. In this case, it takes a great deal of skill to attach emotion and expression to such a minimum of lines and alienness of features, so it's going to be rare that one finds a picture of Soundwave expressing much of anything, at least with his face, and even rarer to find Soundwave expressing what the artist wanted him to with just his face. Maybe you could go looking at MV art; at least in MV everyone is in agreement as to the serenity of Soundwave, so anyone who draws MV Soundwave might get closer to your view than would those who don't think he's particularly serene. Or maybe by now you've found a peice of Soundwave art that you like. Well, to say this, I had to rate the essay...so, I did...mainly rated such because it's more a personal gripe about the lack of author-acceptable Soundwave art than it is about, well, an essay concerning Soundwave in art...

Bluestreak by Scott_Kampa

Rated: G • starstarstarstar
Summary: Is Bluestreak really blue? What kind of Transformer is he anyway?
Reviewer: PrincessArtemis Signed starstarstarstarhalf-star
Date: 17/11/02 Title: Chapter 1: Bluestreak

No reviews huh? Well, I liked this essay. I'd heard about Bluestreaks past and read a few fics that dealt with it. But he has a courage of 2 on the specs? Sounds like someone dinked that up. Maybe he's called Bluestreak not because he was ever blue in form or thought, but because he can talk up a bluestreak? ;)

A Better Breed Of Hero by Raksha

Rated: G • starstarstarstarhalf-star Feature
Summary: A hero may be someone who swoops to your rescue when you're in trouble - but a better breed of hero is someone who inspires you to stand up and fight for yourself.
Reviewer: PrincessArtemis Signed starstarstarstar
Date: 05/11/02 Title: Chapter 1: A Better Breed Of Hero

Certainly an interesting take. Although I would argue that a hero can be a savior hero and an example hero at the same time. I would in fact have difficulty seperating the two, because a savior hero risks life and limb for another, and that can be the one of the greatest examples of something to live up to. I guess it's a matter of priorities.

Very good insight into the "other side", as I suppose I could call it. I disagree with many of the arguments, and take umbrage at the idea that anyone would think an Autobot fan must be spoon-fed and unable to consider anything beyond what they are told, but hopefully there is only one person who thinks that. In any event, it is good to see what many of the prevailing arguments are for Decepticons being not only "not evil" but respectable and inspiring. I will take away from this "essay" some thought-provoking ideas. My major qualm with it is, however, that so much is missing. I understand that for a newsgroup thread that much would be lost, but it seems more was lost than is necessary--I would have liked to have seen some of the arguments made in full, in the original poster's words, rather than piecemeal through quotes by others. Definately a fascinating read, and I'm very happy to see the Autobots get a share of the argument as well.

Perpetual Light by Negare

Rated: G • starstarstarstar
Summary: I've never been impressed with the fact that the cartoon never really answered the question of what happened to Sparkplug, I was also not impressed with any of the fan explanations... so I decided to give Sparkplug a little dignity...

Exceptionally well done and interesting. A very plausible and workable origin of the 'other half'. I enjoyed the read!

I liked this a good bit. It would be very hard to live up to a name like that, and this shows that up well.

ARGH! Names, I'm coming after you with a Super Secret Voice Stealer. Heh. Seriously, that's really good and a very unique idea. I don't know how probable it is, but yowza, he's right, it would end everything and ruin him. Bravo!
