This story gives much more characterization to Prowl than most, especially in regards to his logical nature. While the story doesn't do this explicitly,in the grand scheme of transformer mythology, it separates Prowl, as a logical creature, from a Shockwave. Of course, other sources do such, but those sources never explain why two brilliant logicians can be so different. While I don't think that it was necessarily one of the author's goals, it is quite easy to make further inferences from the his thoughts. However, I thought that the Greek mythological references were inaccurate and took away from the story. It didn't need to refer to the Trojan war in order to gain that epic feel, or in this case, mini-epic due to the length. For example, why is Optimus compared to Odysseus. I suppose that Agamemnon would be an insult. However, Optimus isn't even close to Odysseus in terms of character traits. Perhaps Jazz would be, but Optimus isn't quite a clever trickster. That is just one example. It seems more as if the references were used to add credibility to the story, which it didn't really need. I cannot agree that the references were accurate, as one reviewer did. Overall, it was a pretty good piece of transformers fiction. I would definitely read another piece of this author's work.
I do understand the reasoning behind the setting, but him considering this during a battle is not quite something I can see Prowl doing. Having said that, I can't imagine anyone else besides Prowl figuring this out. It's a slightly disturbing thought about Megatron as the force behind the Autobots' success, but one that definately deserves some thought. It was another fantastic fic, Horsie.
Frequent mythologically-inclined similes and metaphors! :) Love when people throw those in... adds a new level of description to those among us who know myth backward and forward. I like the theme of the story too: that hope ultimately defies logic. Prowl is the perfect viewer of this fracas, and you describe things wonderfully with the art of comparison. horsie-fics are to be revered. 8)
